MER Biofeedback® Therapy for Children and and Young People (ages 4–19)
MER Biofeedback® Therapy for Children and and Young People
When a child can’t explain how they feel, “talking it through” isn’t always possible
Have you noticed that your child is struggling internally, but doesn’t yet know how to put into words what’s troubling them?
Is your teenager feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or low in mood, and prefers to keep their feelings to themselves?
Sometimes a child’s feelings express themselves through behaviour instead—restlessness, irritability, difficulty concentrating, withdrawal, or unexplained fears. The child themselves may not understand why they feel this way, nor can they explain what’s going on inside.
MER Biofeedback® therapy offers an effective solution for children and young people experiencing emotional challenges—without any pressure to talk or revisit difficult experiences. The therapy is gentle and specifically tailored to meet each child’s unique age and developmental needs.
Therapist-guided sessions – technology and specialist working together
Our therapists use a CE-certified biofeedback device to identify and balance:
* Subconscious limiting beliefs that may be hindering development
* Automatic emotional triggers that cause stress
* Repetitive thinking patterns that affect confidence and decision-making

Hille, mother of 6-year-old Kris
Kris was just 4 years old when he started coughing and making noises. He had developed tics.
Results: The vocal tics became less frequent. Kris no longer made noises constantly every day, whereas before, there wasn’t even a ten-second pause. It seems to me that his coughing is related to how tired he is at the time. Now, there are days when I hardly notice his coughing at all.
I highly recommend MER Biofeedback therapy to everyone. [Read More]
Lea, mother of a 6-year-old son
My son was three years old when we first started having problems with his behaviour. Our main concern was his aggressiveness. It quickly became common that if someone got hurt in nursery, my son was the culprit. When the children were playing and I heard one of them cry out, I knew without looking what had happened. We were in serious trouble with our son.
Results: My son and I attended MER Biofeedback® therapy six times over six months, and now I have a brand new son!
He is calm, cheerful, and we have had no problems with his behaviour. The aggression is gone.
MER Biofeedback® therapy has been a life-changing experience for us. We can enjoy our son again and be proud of what he is capable of achieving. Most gratifying is that our son himself is noticeably more satisfied. [Read More]
Mari, mother of an 11-year-old child
My daughter has had ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) for a while. Her symptoms included restlessness, impulsivity, absent-mindedness, poor attention span, difficulty concentrating, and mood swings. She would get upset and angry over simple things. At school, she had a lot of problems concentrating and studying.
Results: After just the first therapy session, I noticed changes in my daughter’s behaviour. There was considerably less protest and reluctance. Seeing that the therapy had a positive effect on her, I decided to attend further sessions with her. So far, we have been to therapy four times, and the results continue to surprise me! Her ADHD symptoms have subsided.
She became happier and more open, so I was able to talk to her. She developed an interest in books and was even able to read a book to the end, which had been impossible until now. Her ADHD symptoms have subsided. [Read More]
Laura, mother of 6-year-old Marta
From the time Marta was 2 years old, she began experiencing tics. We carried on with our lives as best we could. However, Marta continued to be troubled by serious problems. She could no longer walk normally or hold a glass in her hand. She would walk by taking a couple of steps and then jumping backwards. This movement automatically straightened her knees and caused her pain. Additionally, she had facial tics and made involuntary movements with her hands, which often disturbed people in public.
Results: To date, we’ve attended therapy four times in total, and Marta no longer jumps when walking, can hold a glass in her hand, her hands no longer make compulsive movements, and the unpleasant compulsive utterances and sounds have disappeared. All the tics gradually decreased until they disappeared completely. Without the tics, Marta is much more confident and copes brilliantly with herself. She also enjoys attending therapy. We are very grateful and recommend MER Biofeedback® therapy to anyone whose family members experience tics or Tourette’s [Learn More]
Signe, mother of a 13-year-old child
Both my son and I have been diagnosed with ADHD, or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. We both suffered from symptoms such as an inability to focus and complete tasks, leading to multiple activities being started but not finished. Our thoughts would wander, and strange connections would emerge. Sometimes, our minds were so full of different thoughts that it felt like our heads would split.
Result: After the first therapy session, both my son and I felt calmer and were better able to understand and concentrate.
We attended therapy five times over the course of five months. The results have been phenomenal for us! We have regained our peace of mind and no longer worry about the little things. Impulsive behaviour has significantly decreased, and obsessive thoughts have subsided. We can focus better on one activity and stay calm in stressful situations.
Now that he can focus on his studies, his grades have improved significantly.
Our son and I received invaluable help from MER Biofeedback therapy, it was the right choice for us! [Read More]
Riina, mother of a 7-year-old child
My son was four years old when I first started thinking that maybe he was not exactly where he should be in his development. Even in nursery, the teachers said that he didn’t participate in activities like the other children. Specialists began to suspect that it was attention deficit disorder, or ADHD.
The traits of ADHD were mainly manifested in his inability to listen and remember what was being said to him.
Result: After starting MER Biofeedback therapy, I noticed a change right away! By now, we have attended therapy several times over the past six months. The symptoms of ADHD have subsided, and many of the problems that previously caused concern have completely disappeared. His speech and fine motor skills have improved significantly. Previously, he spoke in slurred speech, but now his speech is much clearer. He also doesn’t forget things as frequently as he used to. In general, he is much more self-aware and open. He is still a very active child, but now he listens to us and it is much easier to communicate with him. We are living proof that MER Biofeedback therapy works, and we recommend it to everyone! Moonika, mother of a 4-year-old child
My 4-year-old child developed a severe fear of the fire alarm at nursery because it would suddenly go off several times due to a malfunction. The nursery teacher was able to calm him down, but eventually, she couldn’t. The situation worsened, and he developed a phobia.
He would have a panic attack just seeing the fire alarm.
Results: A few days after the session, he was much better and no longer afraid of the fire alarm bell, whether at kindergarten or in shopping malls. The fear was gone. He only needed MER Biofeedback® therapy once. We highly recommend MER Biofeedback® therapy for other children with fears and phobias. [Read More]
Eve, mother of a 5-year-old child
I am the mother of a 5-year-old son. When my son was three, we had a major problem with washing. Every time I bathed him, he screamed non-stop, especially when it came to washing his head. I had tried everything, including various play strategies, but nothing could calm him down during bath time. It was heartbreaking, but he needed to be washed.
Results: After an hour of therapy, my son was tired and sleepy, and I put him to bed immediately. A few days later, it was time for another bath. I prepared him as usual, expecting the usual screaming when I put him in the bath. To my surprise, he didn’t yell! Even washing his head went smoothly. I was relieved and overjoyed that we had finally solved this problem and that my son’s stress was alleviated. It has been a few months since the therapy, and we haven’t had any issues with bathing since. His ablutophobia is gone!
I highly recommend MER Biofeedback® therapy to other parents facing similar challenges. [Read More]
Anna (Age 17)
A few years ago, I was diagnosed with depression. I found it very difficult to cope with myself. Everything seemed impossible, and the future felt hopeless.
My depression was caused by several factors. I was bullied at school, and there were also problems at home. Then came the coronavirus pandemic, and the isolation affected me negatively as well. For years, I struggled with extreme anxiety. I lived in a constant state of fear, even though I couldn’t quite pinpoint what I was afraid of. This paralyzing fear cost me many opportunities. At times, I didn’t even communicate with my closest friends, didn’t go to school, and barely left the house.
Results: With each subsequent therapy session, the feeling of well-being lasted longer. The most amazing thing for me is the sense of calm. I had grown used to being highly anxious, but now I don’t feel that way at all anymore. Now, I attend school far from home and live in a dormitory during the week. This independence has boosted my self-confidence. Stepping out of my comfort zone has pushed me to take action.
People around me notice the changes in me very clearly. They often say that, compared to before, I’m much livelier and happier. I socialise more and go out more often. My life has completely changed thanks to MER biofeedback therapy! [Read More]
Marju, mother of an 8-year-old child
My son was diagnosed with ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder). He had major behaviour problems, showing signs of ADHD such as an inability to concentrate and difficulty understanding things. He didn’t want to study at all.
He seemed to be in a hurry all the time, constantly needing to move and unable to stay calm in one place. He was also quick to get irritated and had outbursts of anger over trivial things, struggling to calm down afterwards. He hit classmates and was aggressive
Regarding irritability, outbursts of anger, and aggressiveness, there was a noticeable improvement after the first therapy session. He was noticeably calmer, and the comments from school became fewer. The symptoms of ADHD had subsided. Before therapy, his behaviour scores were two and three. Now, after therapy, the grades are mostly fours and fives.
Results: After the third therapy session, there was a significant improvement in concentration and reduced impulsivity. We attended therapy together five times. Each time, his understanding and learning improved. He became better at planning his activities independently, could follow along in class, and no longer interrupted his conversations. I highly recommend MER Biofeedback therapy to others who have problems with ADHD, impulsivity, concentration, and behaviour issues. [Read More]
Hille, Mother of a 6-year-old child
Kris was just 4 years old when he started coughing and making noises. He had developed tics. Since Kris’s coughs were daily and wouldn’t go away, I took him to see a family doctor. The doctor suggested that these tics might be Tourette’s syndrome and reassured us that they would likely stop on their own over time.
However, after about a year, the tics began to seriously disturb our family. From the moment he opened his eyes in the morning until he fell asleep at night, there was not a ten-second break without him making a sound.
It was particularly difficult to travel with Kris on public transport.
Results: After MER Biofeedback therapy his vocal tics became less frequent. Kris no longer made noises constantly every day, whereas before, there wasn’t even a ten-second pause. Now, there are days when I hardly notice his coughing at all. [Read More]
Ingrid, Mother of a 7-year-old child
Liisu was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder at the age of 2.5 years. Liisu’s autism spectrum disorder mainly manifested in her being very tearful, not speaking, only pointing, shouting a lot, and not obeying any rules.
We lived every day and every hour worrying about Liisu.
I had to watch her all the time so that she wouldn’t accidentally hurt herself or others or disappear. She never responded when called. She also could not signal when she was hurt. She couldn’t play calmly with her younger sister; it always ended with someone getting hurt. Because of her special nature, we couldn’t leave the house too often as no one else could handle her well. Only I could put her to sleep, she even refused her father.
Results: Then I heard about MER Biofeedback therapy. I immediately felt that this was something that could be a good fit for us. Liisu was already seven years old at that time. Although I didn’t expect results so soon, we noticed changes in her just two weeks after the first session. I remember my husband was the first to say that the therapy must be working. Liisu was much calmer, listened to us, and had found her voice. She started using more words than usual, sang along to songs, and even showed an interest in books, which she never did before.
The situation improved even more with the following sessions. We noticed that she was able to play peacefully with her little sister, she cried less, and the words kept coming. Liisu started to report pain, and when she got hurt, we applied a plaster. If before she didn’t think much of kisses and hugs, now she sometimes comes and asks for a kiss, dear. Bedtime is more pleasant now because Daddy can also do it sometimes, not just me.
Others around us have also noticed changes in Liisu’s nature. Once I had to leave home unexpectedly and needed a babysitter. Afterwards, the sitter was surprised that it was no longer the same child! We no longer have to desperately follow Liisu all the time.
She responds when I call her and can also play calmly on her own at times. This never happened before! Huge changes have taken place in Liisu over a few months. For years, we tried to help and support Liisu as best we could. With the support of MER Biofeedback therapy, Liisu has made progress that we could not have expected or hoped for [Read More]
How Many Sessions Are Needed?
Often, just 1–2 sessions are sufficient for younger children (ages 4–9).
Many young people experience noticeable improvements in emotional balance within 2–3 sessions, based on our therapists’ experience and client feedback.
This approach is also effective for stressors related to adjustment difficulties, abandonment issues, loss, grief, and anger, as well as behavioural challenges, and low self-esteem.
Long-term emotional challenges and repetitive sounds/movements (Tics) often result in deeply rooted negative thought patterns and limiting beliefs. Addressing these complex underlying layers to balance stress indicators typically requires more sessions.
Teenagers and young adults – Strong emotional reactions, a relentless inner critic, self-esteem and confidence, meltdowns or shutdowns, emotional challenges, school stress, school refusal: To achieve a more lasting balance, we recommend 3–6 sessions.
For challenges such as restlessness and difficulty with focus or concentration, we typically recommend a series of 4 to 6 sessions to achieve a sustainable balance.
For children experiencing developmental delays or autism, we provide support for cognitive, speech, learning, and communication needs. To foster sustainable progress and balance, we typically recommend a series of 4 to 8 sessions.
Why Choose MER Biofeedback® Therapy?
Traditional counselling, talk therapy, and coaching typically rely on conscious reflection and verbal processing. This often requires younger clients to identify, articulate, and revisit personal experiences—a process that can be:
* Time-intensive: Often requiring many sessions.
* Emotionally demanding: Revisiting difficult memories can be emotionally overwhelming.
* A barrier to communication: Many children struggle to find the words to express complex feelings.
* Cognitively limited: Effectiveness depends on a child’s ability to consciously recall and describe specific stressors.
MER Biofeedback® therapy works differently.
Rather than working solely with conscious thoughts, we communicate directly with the body’s subconscious stress responses. This means:
* No need to spend hours explaining the past
* Identifies patterns children may not consciously recognise
* Faster results – addresses root causes directly
* Gentler process – no need to relive traumatic experiences
* Works even when children can’t express their feelings
