Here you will find answers to questions asked during MER Biofeedback® therapy.

How long should a therapy session be?

We recommend a 90-minute session for adults and children aged 12 and over, and a 60-minute session for children under 12.

Is MER Biofeedback® therapy covered by insurance?

MER Biofeedback® therapy is not covered by insurance.

What causes tiredness during or after a therapy session?

During a MER Biofeedback® therapy session, deep-seated tensions are released, often leading to a profound sense of relaxation. This can leave you feeling tired, much like the pleasant fatigue after a sauna or a deep tissue massage.

If significant or long-standing tensions are relieved, you might feel fatigued for a few days. To support your body during this period, we recommend going to bed earlier to ensure adequate rest.

Is it possible for emotions such as anger, irritability, and sadness to intensify after a therapy session?

It's possible for deep-seated emotions like anger, irritability, and sadness to intensify or surface after a therapy session. This occurs as the initial release of tension can reveal new layers of negative thought patterns and emotions.

Long-suppressed feelings, perhaps from childhood or previous repression, may resurface. This intense emotional process typically lasts 1–3 days, after which clients often report a pleasant sense of lightness.

For instance, addressing fears, excessive worry, anxiety, panic, and obsessive thoughts in an initial session might uncover underlying pent-up anger, irritability, or unforgiveness. A follow-up session would then focus on processing these newly emerged emotions and related stressors. Similarly, if initial therapy targets anger and victim mentality, a deeper sadness might emerge post-session, which would then be addressed in subsequent sessions to foster joy and happiness.

How many MER Biofeedback® therapy sessions are recommended, and what effects will I notice after therapy?

Based on client feedback, noticeable and lasting changes occur within one to five sessions, depending on the client’s emotional state and therapeutic goals.

The interval between sessions typically ranges from three to six weeks, depending on the purpose of the therapy.

The number of sessions required is uniquely individual, depending on your specific needs and the duration and intensity of the challenges you’re facing. Long-term emotional tension, anxiety, depression, and other persistent negative emotional states often result in deeply rooted thought patterns and limiting beliefs. Addressing these complex underlying layers to balance stress indicators typically requires more time.

For individuals experiencing prolonged depression or significant stress in their life or work, therapy should be delivered more systematically to provide consistent support.

Most our clients have already provided feedback after the first therapy session, describing the results as follows:

Mental clutter and obsessive thoughts subside, leading to a profound sense of inner peace.

After just one session, many clients report a significant 50–70% reduction in intrusive thoughts related to fears, anxiety, panic attacks, excessive worry, mental exhaustion and burnout.

Most clients experience a 50–70% reduction in feelings like sadness, anguish, and melancholy, with feelings of joy increasing by 50–60%.

Clients experience a significant reduction in tension and a 50-60% improvement in stress resilience. Their desire to act and overall motivation increase by 40-50%, reflecting an enhanced life energy. Furthermore, clients report being able to relax 30–50% more effectively and manage their stress levels and emotions 50–60% better than before.

Our clients report a significantly increased self-control, by 60-70%. This means they can better manage their emotional reactions in challenging situations or with difficult people. For those who previously experienced anger, irritability, frustration, and similar emotions, these feelings are 50-70% less likely to be triggered than before.

Second Session Details:

In your second session, the therapist re-evaluates the key stressors identified previously, balancing any that have resurfaced or become unbalanced. This ongoing assessment guides the therapist, allowing them to delve deeper into subconscious layers and address further stressors. The more profound the emotional traumas experienced, the more significant the positive shifts you may notice, particularly after this session.

Post-Second Session Experience:

Following the second session, most clients typically report a notable increase in well-being and joy, accompanied by enhanced willpower, motivation, and enthusiasm to implement positive changes in their lives. While these positive shifts commonly emerge after the second session, their timing can vary, appearing after the first or third session, depending on the individual's unique thought patterns and the depth of their challenges.

Third Session:

For more significant or long-standing stress, tension, or trauma, optimal results are often achieved after the third session. Following therapy, clients find they can recall past traumatic events without experiencing emotional distress or obsessive thoughts; these memories may feel akin to watching a film. Furthermore, the emotional triggers associated with those traumas – such as fear, anxiety, panic, anger, sadness, disappointment, inferiority, low self-esteem, social anxiety, self-blame, or feelings of abandonment – are significantly reduced or no longer activated.

During therapy, the client does not need to recall or describe negative life events or traumatic experiences. This therapeutic approach means that the therapist does not ask questions about past events. Therefore, if you prefer not to speak during the session, you are not required to do so. What should I do after therapy to maintain emotional balance and a positive mindset?

In the first session, the therapist provides the client with an information sheet called “New Programmes”, so the client can start practising new, positive ways of thinking, acting, and being. This information helps the client find suitable supportive affirmations, discover new positive and supportive aspects, and engage in activities that improve their quality of life.

After your therapy session, we recommend introducing new, positive activities into your life to sustain and enhance the benefits. Here are some suggestions:

– Dedicate your free time to engaging in activities and hobbies that capture your interest.

– Explore new experiences—try activities you’ve never done before, visit places you’ve never been, and indulge in hobbies that bring you joy.

– Learn to appreciate moments of silence and take time for yourself, whether it’s listening to the sound of the sea, birdsong, or soothing music, particularly if you lead a fast-paced life.

– Spend time with positive, humorous people who support you, and participate in exciting activities or hobbies together.

– Incorporate practices that relax both the mind and body, such as listening to relaxing music, spending time in nature, walking in the forest, practising breathing exercises, meditating, doing yoga, or enjoying a massage.

– Make conscious choices about the activities you undertake and the company you keep—avoid people and places that drain your energy. Choose to be around friends who are caring, encouraging, and respectful, and distance yourself from those who are malicious or envious.

– Establish your own boundaries in communication with loved ones; it’s okay to say, “Let’s change the subject, please” or “I’m tired today and need to rest.”

– Stay physically active according to your abilities and opportunities, including spending as much time as possible outdoors.

– Ensure you get sufficient sleep.

– Maintain a varied and balanced diet that focuses on your body’s needs rather than simply satisfying appetites. Be mindful of everything you consume, in every sense of the word.

EEG-Biofeedback, also known as Neurofeedback, is used to map and analyse the brain's dynamics. By measuring and evaluating brain activity with real-time electroencephalograms (EEG), Neurofeedback helps individuals gradually retrain their brain and improve self-regulation. In most cases, positive changes are observed within 20–60 sessions. Many Neurofeedback devices are certified medical devices, and therapy sessions are conducted by qualified medical professionals.

Electromyography (EMG) biofeedback is a technique used to help a subject better understand and recognize their own muscle tension in real-time. EMG is typically used by doctors to access and diagnos muscle and nerve conditions.  EMG is valuable because it allows a subject to gain more control over the activation or relaxation of their muscles. positive changes are observed within 10–30 sessions.

MER Biofeedback® therapy, practised at M.E.S. Life Mastery, supports mental health by balancing emotional stress using a biofeedback device.

Most clients have reported feeling lighter and more balanced after just one session.

For best and lasting results, we recommend clients complete at least three to five sessions, depending on their emotional state.
